Gran's money disappear from gift box at wedding in Portugal!

 We have decided to have our wedding at Quinta dos Rouxinous and it seemed like the best venue for us. The preparation for the wedding went smoothly and our contact person was helpful.

Our wedding day was amazing, the food was great and waiters very attentive with our guests and us. The room we stayed in was great and clean.

Unfortunately, our amazing day was darkened by the fact that some of our cards, containing money, were stolen from our wedding post box. The stolen cards totaled around £2000! This was something that we found out after some of our guests asked us where they should put the wedding card, towards the end of the event. We wanted to use the money received as gifts, as a deposit for our new home....We were ( and still are) absolutely devastated...

But it got worse when we found out that among those cards were my husband’s grandmother’s money too, who used some from her small pension to offer us a gift. Her gift, just like so many others, never reached us.

When we brought the incident to the attention of the venue, their first reaction was to tell us that their lawyers will contact us, not even an apology!

When the lawyer  contacted us we were told that if we write a bad review about the venue, they will take us to court, taking advantage of the fact that we were living abroad and didn't know what are the rules in Portugal. They were also fully aware that for us to make a police report will be very hard.

We have asked the venue for the video footage from the cameras and the list with the employees who worked on that day, but we have been ignored. After months from the wedding date, the venue is still ignoring us and questioning our honesty. 

Please note, by posting this review we do not wish to make any accusations. Our intention is to state the facts of our experience and, also, the customer service and support ( or lack of support)  offered by the venue, following the incident. 

We are appalled by this experience and our families and friends were in shock when we told them that the money they gifted to is, never got to us. 

We still dread to think about this, as it feels like a stain covering what was the most incredible day in our lives! Nonetheless, we wanted to share our experience with you, in the hope that you do thorough research (and more research) about your dream venue. 

Our advice is if you are planning to have your wedding at Quinta dos Rouxinous simply ask your guests to hand you the cards, just to be on the safe side.
