Recommended Hotels
ST REGIS GRAND
A magnificent Roman palazzo, combining Italian- and French-style decoration and furnishings. The lobby is decked out with Murano chandeliers, columns, marble busts, and cherubs. You'll also find Murano chandeliers in many of the guest rooms, which for the most part are exceedingly spacious and luxuriously furnished.
HOTEL SCALINATA DI SPAGNA
This is Rome's most famous little boutique hotel. The deluxe Hassler is across the street but far removed in price and grandeur from this intimate, upscale B&B at the top of the Spanish Steps. This delightful little building -- only two floors are visible from the outside -- is nestled between much larger structures, with four relief columns across the facade and window boxes with bright blossoms.
HOTEL LORD BYRON
In an Art Deco villa set on a residential hilltop in Parioli, an area of embassies and exclusive town houses at the edge of the Villa Borghese, the Lord Byron exemplifies modern Rome. From the curving entrance steps off the staffed parking lot in front, you'll notice striking design touches. Flowers are everywhere, the lighting is discreet, and everything is on an intimate scale.
